三、意为“时好时坏，不稳定”等，相当于 sometimes good and sometimes bad，相当于形容词，例如：

My dad’s been quite up and down ever since he lost his job at the factory.
自从我爸爸在工厂失业后，他的情绪一直很不稳定。
My relationship with him was very up and down.

需要注意的是，up and down 是固定搭配，我们不能写成 up or down，除非这里的 or 是跟 either 搭配，但此时的 up or down 不是一个整体，例如：
The cat has been running either up or down.
