good and…很，非常，完全、彻底

The apples are good and ripe. 这些苹果完全成熟了 。
通常用“and”來连接两个形容词时，是表示两个形容词的对等作用，但第一个形容词如果是“good”，“nice”，“fine”等词的话，当它和“and”结合起来时，便构成“well"或是“ nicely"对后面形容词或副词含义加强的意思 。这种good, fine, nice, lovely，bright，big和rare等分别加and构成了一个整体，“很”、“非常”、“极”，与very, entirely和completely或“ thoroughly”等词同义 。
在美国口语中，这种表现法用得很多，是作为强调语( (intensifier)用的 。例如:
good and sweet非常甜
good and cold非常冷
nice and cool非常凉爽
good and plenty非常多
这种结构不可把“ good and ripe”译成：又好又熟，它的原意实际是“ well ripe”(熟透) 。通常都可改副词，如“ nice and cool”= nicely cool(凉爽） 。
其中，“ lovely and warm”= delightedly warm(温暖)是女性用語 。
例如：
I won\'t go until I\'m good and ready.
我要完全准备就绪后才走 。
She was good and angry.
她非常生气 。
