在习语表达中，line可是一个很多用的词汇，不仅仅是绳索，路线或球场上的边界线，line还有很多更加丰富而有趣的表达，一起来看看吧~
1.the bottom line 本质问题
该习语原意是指账本最底行，盈亏一栏的结算行，后引申为本质问题的含义 。
The bottom lineis that the majority of our students are physically unfit.
本质问题是我们的学生大多身体不好
2.cross the line 越界；过火
在过去的拳击比赛中，双方选手都不可跨过地上的红线，cross the line 可能正是源于此，后引申为过火，过分 。
Celebrationsbreak out oncetroopscross the line.
在部队越过边境时大家一同庆祝 。
The show’s pretty outrageous,but I don’t think itcross the line.
这个演出惊世骇俗，但我认为并无过分之处 。
3.draw the line 界定，明确区分；（因不赞同）拒绝做某事
与cross the line 类似，该短语也可能源于最初的球类运动或拳击运动，在比赛时以界定线为标准 。
I can feel anger now, but I draw the lineatresentment.

Helping these folks can be very rewarding, but you have to be careful about where to draw the lineand know when to decline.

4.be in the firing line/be in the line of fire 处于风口浪尖，易受攻击/批评的位置
此习语原意指在火力线上，在前线，前线自然是非常危险的地方，则引申意为：易受攻击和批评的位置，也指舆论上的风口浪尖 。
She knew she would always be in the firing linewhen she became thesecretaryof the boss.
她知道当上老板的秘书后就会经常处于风口浪尖 。
5.put something on the line/lay something on the line 冒险为之；实话实说
试想一下在掷双骰子赌博中的边线押注，这一行为极具冒险意味，此短语可能正是源于此处，意为冒险做某事 。
I\'m going to put it on the linefor you. You must work harder if you want to get an A.
我实话对你说，如果你想取得A的成绩，就必须再努力一些 。
He had put his career on the lineand I wasn’t prepared to be anonlooker.
他已经把他的事业全压在上面了，对此我不会袖手旁观的 。
